Port Royal Concept Plan
The Port Royal 2020 Concept Plan seeks to restore Port Royal (and the wider area) as a world class heritage, environmental and cultural attraction while upgrading its physical infrastructure and improving the economic and social conditions. Introduction of the Project Area
Port Royal is located to the south of the country’s capital Kingston and the Kingston Harbour. Its immediate area extends for some two hundred (200) acres to the tip of the Palisadoes. In 1692, a severe earthquake and tidal wave struck and a large portion of the town was devastated.
Port Royal's Existing Realities
The community of Port Royal faces several challenges. Among these are issues affecting the natural environment, inadequate housing solutions, inadequate infrastructure systems (sewerage, water, roads, drainage, public amenities, among others).
Development Outline
The Plan’s strategies will seek to restore what is necessary to retain our history identify and implement sustainable solutions for adaptive re-use, via an accompanying Management Plan.
